There are a number of items you can donate to your local animal shelters. Items such as pet food, newspapers for bedding, and cleaning supplies are items that they use every day to help take care of the animals they are sheltering and crucial to helping them run smoothly.
What you can ditch
Items local animal shelters usually accept:
- Sealed dog and cat food & treats (preferably Science Diet dry cat and dog food)
- Canned Cat, Kitten and Dog food (preferably Friskies pate wet cat food, and Pedigree wet dog)
- Bleach
- Bath towels
- Black trash bags
- Paper Towels
- Dish and hand soap
- Non-Clumping Cat litter
- Laundry Detergent
- Cat toys
- Paper food trays and small paper plates for cat feeding
- Newspaper for lining cages
- Other basic cleaning products and supplies
However all shelters are different, so contact the shelter directly or visit their website to learn about their specific needs and drop-off procedures. Your contributions help ensure the well-being and comfort of animals awaiting adoption.
